Today, 10th November is the 525th anniversary of Martin Luther who was born in 1483. The Desiring God Blog have marked the occasion here: Thank God for Martin Luther.
Here are a few things on the blog about Luther:
- Luther’s Conversion
- Luther on Reading Books
- The First of Luther’s 95 Theses
- Theology For All Conference (2006) with Carl Trueman
- Book Review of John Piper’s Legacy of Sovereign Joy, including a chapter on Luther and link to an MP3 talk about his life.
Probably some of Luther’s most famous words go something like this:
.. my conscience is captive to the Word of God … here I stand I can do no other, God help me, Amen. Martin Luther, Diet of Worms, 1521
Thanks to ReformationArt.com for the picture of Martin Luther.

And, for those who are interested, there is a very good movie of Martin Luther, 2003.
From what I can tell pretty historically accurate, and I found it pretty gripping. Starring Joseph Fiennes, and there’s a few other big hitters in there too.

It’s got Luther’s famous line in… Joseph Fiennes made a very shrewd acting decision in how to play the line I thought. I mostly hear people quote the line triumphantly. Fiennes catches Luther’s sense of self-doubt and trembling inner strength – forced to stand on God’s Word, but not enjoying contention. Splendid.
