Hello! Well it has been a while since my last around and about post. Here are a few things that have caught my eye…

Website

The Desiring God wesbite is an excellent resource full of all kinds of things like talks, articles, audio and video by John Piper. If you’ve ever visited, or even if you haven’t, and don’t know when to start, the Desiring God blog, has given a helpful outline of what is there.

Church History

There has been a bit of enthusiasm about Church History around the in recent times. Good stuff! Adrian Reynolds reminds us that History matters and over at the Coffee Bible Club, Church History is rocking the party! Colin Adams of Unashamed Workman points us to a quote that helps remember History is practical. As C. S. Lewis put it, lets get that sea breeze blowing!

Quotable Quotes

Here are a few illustrations of the above! John Brand, European Director of AIM, recently reminded us of a thoughtful quote on preaching by puritan Richard Baxter over at his blog A Steward of the Secret Things. Justin Taylor has also highlighted a couple of History lessons: J.I. Packer on some lessons Martin Luther can teach us, and a quote from more recent history, Martyn Lloyd Jones on talking to ourselves, (an idea I think I first met via John Piper).

Other Happenings

Tim Chester of the Crowded House offers a few thoughts on Church with reference to a new book, Total Church, he has co-authored with Steve Timmis. Watch the video over at his blog. Dan Hames shares some exciting news as well as some encouraging words about the UCCF. Online theology resource – looking forward to that! Also, Adrian Warnock interviewed a couple of the authors of the excellent book Pierced for Our Transgressions (which I am currently reading).

Cricket News

Finally, the 20/20 competion is underway in England, So far Essex have won and lost a game. The current tables are available at BBC Cricket. Pleasingly when I last attended the county ground Chelmsford on 22nd June, Essex (171-4) beat Sussex (165-5) by 6 wickets, read the scorecard at BBC Cricket.
